I-10 was backed up on my way back to Baton Rouge yesterday. I discovered why.
This isn’t my photo. The truck is sitting on the shoulder of the freeway. By the time I got there, the truck was a smoldering heap and there were emergency vehicles behind it and on the off-ramp seen in this picture.
Now I'm wondering how the fire started. This isn't a Ferrari.

On a tangentially-related note, I-10 between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is one of the most frustrating highways I’ve ever been on. With all of the no-shoulder sections through the bayous one little accident or breakdown can back things up for miles.

Duly noted and agreed. Making the issue worse is the lower speed limit and differential speed limit between cars and trucks over the atchafalaya basin. Throw in the few short, high bridges and police officers who like to hide on the other side, and you have perfect conditions for traffic slowdowns and wrecks.

At least the view from up here is pretty cool... which is good because last time I went through Baton Rouge I was stuck on it for half an hour.

That’s a regular day in traffic for the people commuting from the west side of the river. Just this morning someone’s car died on the way up the bridge and they just abandoned it. I’m guessing they ran out of gas.
